Anti-Wrinkle Injections

As we grow older, our skin loses its elasticity and plumpness due to the reduced production of collagen and elastin. This can lead to thinner, drier skin and the appearance of wrinkles.

These wrinkles are often formed when we express ourselves through our faces. Each time we smile, frown, or squint, we contract our facial muscles. Over time, and with less collagen and elastin, our skin can’t bounce back as it used to, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.

Anti-wrinkle injections, made from a type of bacterium called botulinum toxin, offer a solution to this problem. These injections work by blocking the nerve signals that make muscles contract. This relaxes and softens the muscle, reducing the creases in the overlying skin and, therefore, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Areas which can be treated to smooth and reduce fine lines and wrinkles include: Crows feet or smile lines (around the eyes), Frown lines, Forehead lines, bunny lines (nasalis muscles at the top sides of the nose), chin dimples and peri oral lines (lines around the mouth).

How Can Botulinum Toxin Help You?

Botulinum toxin is a versatile treatment used in aesthetic medicine to address a variety of concerns.

Here are some other of the ways it can be used at our clinic:

Teeth Grinding: Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat teeth grinding, a condition also known as bruxism. By relaxing and weakening the overactive muscles responsible for grinding and clenching the teeth (masseter muscles), it can help alleviate this problem.

Slimming the Jawline: In some cases, the masseter muscles can be large due to genetics or habitual clenching, creating a wider-looking jaw. Botulinum toxin can be used to relax these muscles, resulting in a slimmer and more defined jawline over time.

Lip flip: Relaxing the muscle in the upper lip to help to subtly lift/ ‘flip’ the lip, giving the appearance of a fuller lip.

Gummy smile: A gummy smile can easily be treated with botulinum toxin by relaxing the muscles to limit the rise of the upper lip when smiling.

As always, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider to discuss the potential benefits and considerations of botulinum toxin treatments for your unique needs.

How Long Does Treatment Last?

Anti-wrinkle injections typically last between 3 to 6 months. The duration can vary based on a few factors such as the area treated, the individual’s metabolism and activities and also the type of botulinum toxin product used. It’s important to note that regular treatments can help maintain the desired effects as the results are not permanent. After repeated treatments, the effects may last longer as the muscles being treated become trained to relax. However, this varies from person to person.

At Revive & Refresh Skin Aesthetics, we offer comprehensive consultations to help you understand what to expect from your specific treatment plan.
